Dental Cleaning in Nairobi: Scaling, Polishing and Aftercare

What scaling and polishing do
Plaque is a soft bacterial film. If it hardens into tartar, normal brushing cannot remove it. Scaling uses professional instruments to loosen deposits around the teeth and gumline; polishing smooths the surface and can reduce many everyday stains.
Cleaning is different from whitening. It restores a cleaner natural surface, while whitening is a separate cosmetic treatment that changes tooth shade after a suitability assessment.
What happens at the appointment
Your dentist first reviews symptoms, sensitivity and medical history, then examines your mouth. The cleaning plan is based on the amount and location of deposits and the condition of your gums.

Will dental cleaning hurt?
Many people mainly notice vibration, water and pressure. Inflamed gums or exposed tooth surfaces may feel sensitive. Tell your clinician what you feel; the pace can be adjusted, breaks can be taken, and comfort options discussed.
Aftercare and your next visit
Mild tenderness or temporary sensitivity can occur after heavier deposits are removed. Follow the personalised brushing, interdental cleaning and dietary advice you receive. Your dentist will recommend a recall interval based on gum health and individual risk rather than a one-size-fits-all calendar.
